Clearing The Backlog: Career Lessons From Six Tripple Eight Movie

The Six Tripple Eight is a movie based on a true story of the 6888th Batallion, an all black and all female team that played a very  important role during World War 2. If you have been here for a while, you know we are all about helping working women thrive in their personal and professional lives. The batallion's challenges were no different from the challenges that we face in our careers and personal lives today. Here are my key career takeouts from the movie

The True Cost of Building

I thought I was ready to build, plans approved, bricks delivered, confidence high. Then all my materials vanished into the foundation, and I learned an important life lesson, every great thing costs more than you expect.

The stories that didn’t make the highlight reel.

When the big wins feel few and the year feels shorter than your to-do list, remember His grace didn’t take a break. It showed up in laughter, in breath, and in the strength to try again. This is a reflection on the gifts that never made the highlight reel yet made all the difference.

Brave or Crazy?

Bravery and madness often look identical at the start. What determines the label isn’t the action itself but the outcome and the perspective of those watching. The bravest thing you can do is take the step anyway, knowing that progress rarely comes from playing it safe.

Creating Margin

A packed calendar doesn’t always mean a productive life. Creating margin is the intentional practice of leaving white space in your day to rest, think, and focus on what matters most. Block time for deep work, mark important personal commitments like school runs, and protect focus hours with “do not disturb” just as you would a board meeting. Margin is not wasted time, it is what keeps you energized, creative, and able to deliver at your best.

You Are Capable Of Much More

In September last year,  after ten years, our live-in helper gave us notice that she wanted to move on. She came to  live with us when the twins were a month old, and they recently turned eleven.  Initially, I panicked. How would I even begin looking for someone, train them, and get them to theContinue reading "You Are Capable Of Much More"

This and that…random thoughts from my week

We are now in August. Every month, I keep asking myself, "How did we get here this fast?" Anyway, today I am doing a this and that  post where I share several themes from my week. I often do these. You can check a few from past posts. So, let's get into it.

Surrendered Hearts And Patient Souls…The Twins Birth Story.

Next week, our twins are turning 11. Even after all  these years, I still have pinch me moments where I can not believe how everything happened. So here is the back story. This is a long post. You have been warned. When we got married almost eighteen years ago, I prayed and asked God forContinue reading "Surrendered Hearts And Patient Souls…The Twins Birth Story."

The Power Of A Timely Thank You.

I was scrolling on LinkedIn earlier this week when a connection of mine reacted to a post about her former colleague who had passed away. Suddenly, my timeline was flooded with tributes, testimonies, and stories about how kind this man was. Every time someone shared a post, my connection reacted, and thanks to the algorithm,Continue reading "The Power Of A Timely Thank You."

The Slow No: When Good Ideas Stall In Corporate Corridors

I was flying back to Johannesburg from Algiers via Istanbul, Turkey, last week. My flight out of Algiers was delayed, and by the time we landed in Istanbul, I had already missed my connecting flight. Tired and frustrated, I rushed to the transfer desk, hoping they would  rebook me quickly. Without much conversation, the ladyContinue reading "The Slow No: When Good Ideas Stall In Corporate Corridors"

What If Your Team Is Showing Up, But Not Showing Up To Win?

We were playing soccer recently as a family, our daughter and I versus my husband and our son. The boys scored first. One goal, then another. By the time they hit their third, I called my daughter aside. It was time to regroup and come up with a plan. But she looked up at meContinue reading "What If Your Team Is Showing Up, But Not Showing Up To Win?"

Remembering My Father’s Voice

It’s Father’s Day weekend. And it’s also four years since my own father passed on. Grief is strange in that it wraps itself around days like this. Even when you are doing okay, it tugs gently at your heart, reminding you of what once was. And who once was.I have been thinking a lot aboutContinue reading "Remembering My Father’s Voice"

The Self-Made Illusion

We often celebrate the idea of being “self-made,” but is anyone truly self-made? Even Jesus, in fulfilling His divine mission, relied on a close circle of people from disciples to friends and supporters. This post unpacks the myth of individual success and highlights the power of community, support, and God-ordained relationships in our personal and professional journeys. It’s time we traded self-sufficiency for grace-filled interdependence.

Shinning Without Overshadowing: Navigating Power Dynamics In The Workplace

I recently came across a post on LinkedIn about one of the most quoted and debated laws in Robert Greene’s The 48 Laws of Power. Law 1 says, "Never outshine the master." The idea is simple, make your superiors feel superior. Don’t threaten their status. After decades in corporate, I understand the principle and haveContinue reading "Shinning Without Overshadowing: Navigating Power Dynamics In The Workplace"

7 Career Myths That Are Holding You Back…

I was reflecting on my career journey so far and realized certain things I believed were just not true and probably resulted in missed opportunities.  It’s not just external obstacles that block progress. It’s often the myths we believe about success, advancement, and what it takes to “make it.” These myths may sound like wisdomContinue reading "7 Career Myths That Are Holding You Back…"
