In the corporate world, success isn’t a solitary pursuit, it’s a collective endeavor fueled by the strength of your professional tribe. There is a lot to learn from nature.  Just as wild animals thrive in packs, working professionals tend to flourish when surrounded by supportive peers who share similar goals,ambitions and values. I have learnt over the years not to roam the corporate wilderness alone but to join forces with like-minded individuals who help me unleash my full potential.

The Wisdom of the Pack

Many creatures move in packs or herds. Why? Because there’s strength in numbers and wisdom in collective experience.  Having a professional tribe means tapping into a wealth of diverse knowledge and perspectives.Wolves hunt in packs, utilizing strategic teamwork to take down prey much larger than themselves. They rely on each other’s unique strengths to survive. Your professional tribe can provide insights and guidance crucial for navigating complex challenges in your career. Often when I try to figure out everything on my own, I take much longer. Sometimes it’s a simple phone call to a colleague that unlocks the puzzle.

Strength in Unity

The saying, “united we stand, divided we fall”, perfectly encapsulates the essence of pack behavior in animals and its parallel in the professional realm. Lions, known as the kings of the jungle, maintain their dominance through strong social bonds within their pride. When facing formidable foes or hunting, their coordinated efforts ensure success. In the same way, your professional tribe can act as a support system, offering encouragement during tough times and celebrating victories together. When you stand shoulder to shoulder with like-minded individuals, you become a formidable force, capable of overcoming obstacles that once seemed insurmountable.

Adaptability and Resilience

Last example from the wild! Do you know why  geese flying in a V formation across the sky. This isn’t just for show, it’s a survival strategy honed through evolution. Geese take turns in leading and following. This helps to reduce wind resistance and conserve energy, enabling them to travel vast distances with efficiency. Your professional tribe can serve as a source of inspiration and motivation, encouraging you to embrace change, learn from setbacks, and soar to new heights.As a working professional, adaptability and resilience are paramount in navigating the ever-changing landscape of the corporate world and it’s so much easier when you are surrounded by supportive peers.

Your professional tribe doesn’t have to be a large circle. A few high quality friends with shared values will do the trick. Start with a few people that you trust and who have similar ambitions. The question that is often asked is how do I find these people. There is no one place where you can find such people. It could be your workplace, church, former classmates…and the list is endless. Anywhere where people are found, you can make potential connections that can be transformational for your career.

Gratitude: this week I am grateful for the gift of family. I am grateful for my siblings. My two brothers and six sisters. God automatically blessed me with an inner circle that also serves as my professional tribe. If I have career related and personal questions, I have a wide choice jusr from my siblings alone! Talk about being highly favored! This is a gift that I do not take for granted. Thank you Lord for my siblings.
