It’s Thanksgiving weekend in America. I find having a whole day set aside to reflect on the blessings experienced throughout the year and acknowledging them gratefully really meaningful. My encouragement to you today is to find time to reflect and count your blessings one by one.
I also understand those who feel like they have nothing to be grateful for in 2024. That was me three years ago. My father passed away in March 2021. We were all still grieving when a few days before Thanksgiving of the same year, my sister’s husband also transitioned. I felt I had nothing to be grateful for.
I was reminded of our wedding day sermon. And I have written about it in other posts. You can read about it here. A cake is made up of flour, sugar salt, eggs, and milk. If you are making my favorite, you have to add cocoa. These ingredients, if taken individually, are really gross! Just imagine having dry flour on its own or just salt on its own or the raw eggs. Even ingredients such as sugar and chocolate should not be consumed in excess. The beauty of cake is in the mixing of the individual ingredients in the right quantities. The result is something truly delicious.

In any year, you are likely to experience a mix of both good and not so good things, and this is what makes life truly beautiful. There is something to be grateful for every day. At the beginning of this year, I started a gratitude jar for our family. We have been putting our notes from the beginning of the year, and we are all excited about reading them. A few months back, I also added a gratitude section on each of my blog posts. I am finding that both the jar and the section on my blog are forcing me to focus on what I already have and not what I don’t have. Today, I am living in the answered prayers of past years, past months, and even past generations, and I am truly truly grateful.
Gratitude: This week, I am grateful for the year that 2024 has been. The answered prayers, the yet to be answered prayers, the laughter, the tears, the provision, the lack, are all part of what made the year special. Today, I choose to be grateful for who I have, what I have, and where I am at.
I wish you a happy Thanksgiving season reflecting on everything good already in your life.
Gratefully

PS
Let’s celebrate the blessings we already have today. Share in the comments section what you are grateful for.
