This and that…random thoughts from my week

We are now in August. Every month, I keep asking myself, “How did we get here this fast?” Anyway, today I am doing a this and that  post where I share several themes from my week. I often do these. You can check a few from past posts. So, let’s get into it.

The Twins Birthday: I am still in celebration mode. The twins were asking why I was more excited about their birthday than them. It’s because I know their birth is my testimony. If you haven’t read it yet  you can read it here.

Celebrating Consistency: I started my blog in June 2013 a few months after the birth of our daughter. Back then, I would post once a month. I wasn’t very consistent and skipped some months. Sometime last year, WordPress sent me a notification celebrating 100 articles. I was horrified. In eleven  years, I had only done a hundred posts. I didn’t see anything worth celebrating, so I made a commitment to myself to post weekly come rain come sunshine. For the most part, I have posted every week since August 2024. This is worth celebrating, and I am thankful to many readers who always send me encouraging messages and feedback. Even indirectly, I appreciate the feedback.

Thank you Bels, for the message 😊. It got to me!

Gym and pushing hard: I started going to the gym about three weeks ago. Minana is my self-appointed gym instructor, and she drives me hard, demanding fifty suicides,  Russian twists, and so many other exercise names I had never heard of. I kept reminding her she needed to go easy on me. My logic? “So I don’t hurt myself.” Sounds wise, right? Except I know the truth: I am coasting. I am doing just enough to feel like  I am making progress, but nowhere near enough for the results I want. And isn’t that how we often live our lives? Staying in the safe zone, while deep down we know we are capable of more and that pushing harder is exactly what we need for our own good. I am here to remind you that sometimes, the very thing you are avoiding, the stretch, the strain, the pain, and discomfort is exactly what you need to get to your next level.

The Offside Rule: Did you know I am a soccer mum? Yes, Isaiah plays soccer and often has matches most weekends.  I have been attending my son’s soccer matches for years, cheering along like I fully understood everything that was happening. Today, I finally asked my husband to explain the offside rule to me. Turns out, it’s not rocket science. As a goal scorer, you can’t be closer to the  goalposts than the last defender when the ball is passed to you. This is the way i understood it. Obviously, there are some exceptions, but i now get it. It made me think how often we sit in ignorance, pretending we know what is going on, instead of just asking. The fastest way to move forward in life is to admit you don’t know. Most people are willing to explain and help us if we just ask. Thank you, husband 😘 for explaining it clearly.

MumInStilettos Now On LinkedIn:  MumInStilettos now has a page on  LinkedIn since 1 August 2025. We have been on Facebook since 2017 and on Instagram since 2020. This move to  LinkedIn was long overdue.  Our LinkedIn page is a space to  learn and share, the kind of knowledge that comes from years of mistakes, falling and rising again as a working mother. Fumbling alone takes longer, and I don’t want more women trying to figure out the corporate world on their own when there are others who can provide guidance. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own and learn the hard way. Follow the page here, join the conversation, and let’s  journey together.

Why I Love The Month of August: I have many reasons to love the month of August. Firstly it’s my husband’s birthday month. Interestingly, our expected date of delivery for the twins was his birthday, but the twins decided to come early! I also love August because it’s the eighth month of the year. The number eight has a lot of Biblical significance. If seven represents completion ( God finished the creation process in seven days), then eight represents new beginnings, the start of something fresh.  Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week, effectively the 8th day after the previous Sabbath, which was the 7th day.

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. Mark 16 vs 1-5

Don’t take August as just another month. Maybe the first seven months didn’t go according to your plan. Like the women who were going to anoint Jesus body, you might be worried. They were asking each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb for us?”  You, too, might be asking:

  • How will I get this through this challenge?
  • Who is going to help me with this?
  • Who is going to do X and Y for me?

When they got to the entrance of the tomb, the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled away. According to Matthew’s account in chapter 28 verse 3, it says there was an earthquake, an angel rolled away the stone and sat on it.

So what is the lesson here?

  • We are being asked to hold our peace.  God is in control, and He has already taken care of August, September, and October and the rest of 2025. Most times, the fears we have about the future never  materialize.
  • The angel sat on the stone. Maybe so that it would not roll back and close the tomb again. For me, this says the situation was dealt with once and for all. May this be your testimony for 2025.

Gratitude: This week, I am grateful for the gift of life and good health.

On my playlist this week is Gore Rino Remix by Tembalami, Nutty O and Gemma Griffiths.

Gratefully
